The site you're on now - Polar.sh - enhances what we can do as open source maintainers and with the advent of the Polar GitHub integration, we can expect Polar to skyrocket in use!

From a maintainer standpoint, Polar gives us some great, well polished features including:

• Premium tier-dependent features for sponsors including :
  • Newsletters
  • Private GitHub repos
  • Discord roles (which you can then further enhance with specific access to special channels and more)
  • Sponsor self-management of sponsor ads, built in automation for us to point to those ads to automatically display them and update them in real-time
• Contribution reward splitting (think bug bounties, but integrated!)
• Great APIs
• Integration with Stripe which themselves have integration with many payment providers

From a sponsor perspective, when you sponsor us via Polar versus GitHub Sponsors or OpenCollective you get automatic access to more than you would on the latter platforms with things like the aforementioned "paywalled" benefits including automatic Discord role assignment and (depending on the tier) access to private channels, repos, and blog posts.

One of the key benefits in the early days of Polar was the ability for people to pledge financial work towards an open issue, as a way to say "we really want this!"

We can't recommend utilizing Polar.sh enough, not only because it helps make our lives and yours more engaged, easier, and fun - but also because Polar themselves is built on open source!
