Using xdg-open 1.1.3 version to open a new tab when clicking on URL in an outside app opens multiple tabs in the default browser (Brave Browser in my case) and it also opens additional tabs in any other browser installed (Firefox in my case).

In my case, I have applied the proposed fix to that line and now everything is reacting as expected, only one tab is being opened, even when the default browser is closed.
