I have asked myself the same question a few times, and I finally think that using tabs is harder than using spaces:
- You have to spend more effort trying to avoid mixing tabs and spaces.
- You often don't get by default a nice visualization of the code in browsers, shells, simple editors, etc. So you finally have to create your own workarounds just to get a nice visualization.
I think guidelines are one of the most importants parts of any collaborating project. Unlike Python, in JavaScript we don't have official guidelines. But we have de facto guidelines, and I think using 2 spaces for indentation is one of them.
So, why not using spaces instead?
