Problem statement

We are currently not checking for security / install recommondations or surfacing djangos own errors/warnings in the API/UI

Suggested solution

Add checks for:

• Supported OS
• Supported Deployment Method
• (Optional) Warning if running in kubernetes
• No unsafe file permissions for config / key
• Not running as root / with sudo rights
• No access to general /home directories
• Currently supported(safe) python/pip version
• Running in venv
• Only allow https access
• Not running in DEBUG
• Not blank/wildcard allowed hostsnames / COFS
• No open migrations
• No open translations
• Up to date plugins

Surface check (results) to:

• API:
• Check status
• Individual check results
• Check details
• UI:
• Admin UI (with permissions?)
• Documentation
• Add documentation for all newly added codes
• Add general check docs

Plugins:

• (Optional) Add plugin mixin to add checks
• (Optional) Add plugin chekc runs
• (Optional) Add plugin dependency checks (positiv results needed)

Current way with logged warnigns / errors works

Examples of other systems

• Nextcloud has a nice status check system
• the system API endpoints for the elastic ecoystem are very nice and enable a great remote managment/automation possibility
