Currently, when you attempt to access a page that requires authentication in the browser, it fails with an HTTP 401 error. It would be cool if the browser would prompt you for a username and password and set a basic Authorization header with the credentials provided.
This isn't very high priority, and I know that you aren't very interested in feature requests from non-contributors, but I think this would help bring the browser up to spec. :)
